There is no link for the actual recipe for this shampoo bar. It just leads you to the main recipe page. Did I miss it? I would really like to learn how to make a shampoo bar, because I’m sick of buying chemicals.
Shampoo Bar
4 lb batch
12 oz coconut oil
19 oz mid grade olive oil (not virgin or pomace)
12 oz castor oil
6 oz lye
16 oz distilled water
1/2 oz your favorite essential oil (If the bar is to be used by a pregnant woman DO NOT USE ROSEMARY)
1st in a metal pan combine the water and lye then rest of the oils (except essential) and heat to 100 degrees F. Stirring GENTLY and constantly with metal spoon. Once reaching the proper temperature add your essential and stir in completely.
Pour into mold(s)lined with saran wrap or vaseline. Insulate (cover) for 24 hours. Uncover and leave in mold until soap is hard enough to take out (usually 4-6 days). When hard enough remove from mold and cut into desired size bars. Allow to cure for 4-5 weeks. This soap remains soft for quite a considerable time longer than normal cold pressed soap. IT DOES EVENTUALLY HARDEN into nice bars. Enjoy!

I hate buying soap with chemicals. My skin is very sensitive, and the chemicals just harm it more. So i made the pepperment tea soap and tested it on my face, IT WORKS GREAT! My face was a little red for 10 seconds but after that, my face was glowing! Great recipes, easy for beginners.(You should talk about trying to put some of your soap into stores, I’d buy them for sure!)
Do you mean a non-metal bowl? I’ve made soap for years but have never used lye in a metal container.
As long as it is a 100% stainless steel bowl, it is ok. Otherwise, glass or plastic would be better.
Why do you say not to use virgin or pomace olive oil?
I know lye is what makes the lather, but what if I choose to not use the lye, would I simply have a cleansing bar that doesn’t lather?
Actually Tonya, lye is what makes it soap=) Without either sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, or maybe another basic chemical (there may be others, I’m not sure), your mixture will not become soap at all.
