How to Create a Shaving Soap Mug

Once you start making soap and enjoying the incredible difference between your homemade creations and the inferior products you used to buy, you will begin to look for other items you can replace.  Have you thought about shaving cream?  Rather than buying shaving cream at the store, you can make your own shaving soap!

You are about to learn how to make shaving soap mugs.  These are great for use with a shaving brush and the mug lets you keep the shaving soap on the counter.  A shaving soap mug would make a great gift or you could make a few to sell at a crafts show.

While this project seems to be geared toward men’s shaving practices, the fact that you can choose the essential oils makes it good for women, too.

Shaving Soap Ingredients

I have collected some of the ingredients called for in the recipe for you.  The links take you to Mountain Rose Herbs, the site where I get many of my ingredients.  They specialize in organic products and have a huge selection to choose from.  Their products are top quality and you will be able to tell from the finished soap you make.

  • Castor Oil – Castor oil helps to create that thick, frothy lather we all want in a shaving soap/cream.
  • Coconut Oil - Coconut oil is often used to rejuvenate skin and is thought to have the ability to reduce the formation of wrinkles.  Both refined and unrefined coconut oil is available for your vegan soap and both are certified to be organic.
  • Olive Oil – Olive oil has been known to have many beneficial properites for centuries.  The olive oil at Mountain Rose Herbs is unrefined and certified to be organic.
  • Palm Oil – Palm oil, like the castor oil, helps to make the shampoo bar harder and create lather.  You will want to use the oil listed as “Palm Kernel Oil” on this page.
  • Bentonite Clay – Bentonite clay will absorb toxins from your skin and hold them in the soap lather to be washed away.
  • Essential Oil of Your Choice – Choose the essential oil you would like to use to fragrance your shaving soap.
