Men’s Soap Gifts

Find Out How to Make Soap Gifts for Men

There is an unfortunate stereotype that is perpetuated by many culprits, including the major bath and body stores, that states that men don’t like soap.  As a man, I can tell you this is far from the truth.  It isn’t that men don’t like soap, we just aren’t interested in the soaps sold in those bath and body stores.  The prospect of smelling like “sweet pea” just isn’t that appealing for us.

So what can you do if you want to make soap gifts for the men in your life.  Just like any other gift, you should tailor it to the individual who is receiving it.  Here are some ideas that can get you started in making men’s soap this holiday season.

Man-Friendly Scents & Colors

Two of the major factors you can control and customize for “man-friendliness” are scent and color. Color is the easiest of the two.  All you have to do is find natural colorants that match the gift receiver’s favorite color.  Micas come in a wide variety of hues so that shouldn’t be a problem for you.

Scent is a little trickier, but not by much.  If you aren’t sure about what smells he likes, it is probably a good idea to shy away from any thing that smells too sweet.  Lemongrass (a personal favorite), sandalwood, cedarwood, and rosewood are great essential oils to work with for your soap.  One sneaky thing you can do is order samples from your favorite essential oils supplier of the previously mentioned scents.  Once they arrive, you can off-handedly ask the person which ones smell the best.

Workshop Soap

This soap is great for anyone (man or woman) who gets grease or oil on their hands.  Those items are extremely hard to get off and it takes a strong soap to remove them properly.  In order to create this soap, you can take a favorite cold process or hot process recipe and add ground pumice to the mix after trace.  This soap uses the pumice in order to help remove the harder bits of grime.  You can get a melt & pour recipe here under mechanic’s soap.

Shaving Soap

This one works well if you want to create a “gift set”.  The soap is poured into a mug of his favorite color.  You can then order one of the old style shaving brushes and a straight razor to finish off the package.  Once he uses the homemade shaving soap and shaving brush, he probably won’t go back to the old shaving cream he used!  You can get that recipe here.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I am a fairly new soap maker an I luv melt and pour soap, I’ve found a really great m&p base that I adore. Can you explain to me the difference in M&P soap and cold pressed soap. There just doesn’t seem to be an exact answer from most on the matter.

    Best Regards

I have an idea of adding fragrances. That men normally wear on their cologne but don’t know how to put into soap. Any recipes for powder laundry soap and laundry bar soaps with fabric softener ??
