As you go about your soap making, it would be a very good idea for you to keep a soap making journal.  In this journal, you can document the recipes, temperatures, ingredients, equipment, and procedures you used to create each batch.  This will not only be helpful when something goes wrong, but it will be even more valuable when something goes spectacularly right.  How tragic would it be if you accidentally created your own soap recipe by changing an element or two only to find that you can't remember what you did?
